Dr. Vicki Berkus, M.D, Ph.D CEDS
Medical Director of Eating Disorders Program
Vicki Berkus M.D.,Ph.D, CEDS specializes in adolescent and adult psychiatry, eating disorders full spectrum and sports psychiatry. She has served as president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP), holds eating disorders certification (CEDS) through IAEDP and is a current board member and head of the IAEDP education committee. Dr. Berkus is active in promoting certification and education in the field of eating disorders. Her memberships include the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), The American Society of Bariatric Medicine (ASBP) and the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). She has authored numerous articles as well as the highly acclaimed book "10 Commitments to Mental Fitness".
In 2010 Dr. Vicki Berkus relocated to Tampa, Florida from Tucson, Arizona as Medical Director of Healthcare Alternatives and Fairwinds Treatment Centers' Eating Disorder Programs. In Arizona Dr. Berkus served as the Medical Director for a nationally recognized eating disorders program and was in private practice in Tucson for eight years and consulted at various eating disorders facilities.
Simon J. Hebert, NCC, LMHC, CAP
Intensive Outpatient Program Director
Simon has over 40 years experience in Human services. He has been professionally engaged in the addictions field for over 23 years, specializing in dual diagnosis, family therapy, and spirituality. He has founded and been the clinical director of four other outpatient programs.
Simon holds credentialing as a Certified Addictions Professional, which is the highest credentialing you can receive in the state of Florida in addiction.
Simon is a dedicated and highly reputable mental health professional with a comprehensive background in addictions, mental health, eating disorders,
co-dependency, and compulsive disorders.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program offers ongoing interactive and educational meetings addressing substance and alcohol abuse and its hazards to work performance, family, social, work relations, and medical consequences.
Donald Sweeney, LMHC, CAP
Therapist
Donald Sweeney is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has worked in addictions, sexual abuse, anger management and domestic violence for over Thirty years. Donald has developed crisis interventions and in-home counseling programs for HRS (now the Florida Department of Children and Families) and Family Service Center here in Pinellas County. Donald has also worked with runaway youth (FL), Native Americans (HM) opiate addicts (NJ) and has operated a private practice. Donald brings a diverse mixture of counseling approaches to our program.
Susan Wachter, MA, LMCH, NCC
Susan has been a therapist in the Substance Abuse/Dual Diagnosis and Eating Disorders Programs at Fairwinds Treatment Center since 2005. While working in a private practice setting in Maitland, Florida, she worked with adults and adolescents, as well as in group therapy setting. Susan’s specialties include eating disorders, mood disorders, drug and alcohol abuse issue, dissociative identity disorders, sexual abuse issues and relationship issues.
Kourtney Gordon MS, RD., LD
Kourtney is a registered dietician has been a member of the Fairwinds Treatment Center family since 2000. Kourtney is responsible for managing the operation of Fairwinds inpatient and outpatient ED programs. She is also involved in facilitating and counseling clients in the ED program to achieve normal and responsible eating patterns and weight stabilization through the educational, experiential and menu planning activities. Kourtney is active in the Academy for Eating Disorders, the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and ADA.
Kathleen Sullivan, MAAT
Kathleen earned her degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin and completed her Masters of Arts in Art Therapy at Saint Mary of the Woods College. Clinically trained , she draws upon a vast symbolic language to provide a rich and practical platform supporting ethical and therapeutic alliances through creative self expression. Within an integrative theoretical structure, she facilitates a safe exploration of issues and emotions in adult and adolescent group and individual in-patient and out patient settings.
